Each off-season the NFL landscape changes dramatically with every coaching change across the league.  This past season eight NFL head coaches were terminated, while an additional seven NFL teams made changes at offensive coordinator. How does that impact your fantasy football plays?

With 46 percent of the league changing offensive systems this off-season, I am going to breakdown each of these new play callers, their tendencies and how it will impact each team this coming season, and how it will impact your fantasy football plays.

Fantasy Football Play Caller Profile:

The main point of contention in Minnesota was John DeFilippo’s pass happy offense. In his two seasons in which he has called plays, DeFilippo’s teams have averaged 637 pass attempts while only rushing 375 times.

A staggering 63% of the time John DeFilippo calls a pass play which is by far the highest margin of any of the offensive coordinators that will be calling plays this season. Head coach Mike Zimmer decided to let DeFilippo go after the Seahawks game due to this philosophical difference.

The run game is something that DeFilippo lead offenses have struggled with during his two stints as an offensive coordinator. His teams have never rushed more than 400 times in a single season and average a pathetic 3.85 yards per carry.

While you can’t put too much emphasis on the numbers with such a small sample size it, it is something that must be watched closely. Last season before Dalvin Cook went down with an injury, he was averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

The problem was not the success of Cook when he was getting carries but that he only had 133 in 11 games. The lack of involvement in the running game from a premier player raises more red flags for offenses led by DeFilippo.

The one thing that I am really struggling with is the philosophy fit between head coach Doug Marrone and John DeFilippo. One of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL, Marrone wants to run the football and play great defense, which is the polar opposite of DeFilippo’s philosophy.

The move did make sense when the Jaguars signed free agent quarterback Nick Foles, as DeFilippo was his quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia and key for his success during the Super Bowl run.
