DFS NFL Love, like, leave – Week 1

Football season is officially back baby! For those of you who are playing the Bears-Packers game as the start of the DFS NFL season too, congratulations and good luck! Personally, I’m going to be waiting until Sunday, where we get the first major slate of the year. With week 1 of the NFL comes episode one of DFS NFL Love, Like, Leave. For those of you who were readers during the MLB season, welcome back. To those of you that are new to Love, Like, Leave, I will provide a breakdown of each position, providing a player I love, one I like, and one I think you should leave off of your roster.

As always, as much as these articles are aimed to help, it should not be all the research you do, nor is there any guarantee that the information in this article will be successful. This is only an analysis of the data that I see, there is no precise science to this. Without any further ado, let’s dive right into the most exciting week of the fall, NFL week 1!

DFS NFL Love, like, leave – Week 1

Quarterback

Love

Jameis Winston (7,500 FD): Winston, who has long been a DFS hotspot for players looking for high risk/high reward quarterbacks should be popular in an explosive first week. Winston is known for his ability to sling it, but his lack of accuracy and poor judgment makes him heavily prone to interceptions. However, the arrival of QB whisperer Bruce Arians as HC, and the emergence of Chris Godwin and OJ Howard as secondary and tertiary threats behind Mike Evans makes this passing offense one to watch. A great matchup is on tap for week 1 against the 49ers, and a 3 man stack should not be out of the question. Winston is my QB1 based on exposure for Week 1.

Like

Russell Wilson (8,200 FD): While all the week 1 hype is around Chris Carson, and rightfully so, Wilson will likely fly under the radar, as the masses flock to closer game totals and higher volume passing offenses. This gives Wilson great leverage on the week one crowd, and a stack with Lockett, or a contrarian one with a cheap Hawks receiver could be the leverage you need to take home a GPP. The lack of volume and possible blowout lower Wilson’s floor, but that same blowout potential could lead to a big Wilson performance, especially in the first half.

Leave

Carson Wentz (7,600 FD): While Wentz is reasonably priced and in a good matchup against the Redskins, I think the spot can limit his ability. The lack of an ambitious signal caller under center combined with a deep run game could turn game script quickly into a slow, methodical running beatdown. Wentz is in a similar spot to Wilson, but against a better defense and an offence better designed to stay on the field. You might be able to do worse, but it’s not worth the risk.
