Each off-season the NFL landscape changes dramatically with every coaching change across the league.  This past season eight NFL head coaches were terminated, while an additional seven NFL teams made changes at offensive coordinator. How does that impact your Fantasy Football plays?

With 46 percent of the league changing offensive systems this off-season, I am going to breakdown each of these new play callers, their tendencies and how it will impact each team this coming season, and how it will impact your Fantasy Football plays.

Fantasy Football Play Caller Profile:

The John DeFilippo experiment did not go according to plan as he was relieved of his duties following the Week 14 loss to the Seahawks. With playoff hopes looking bleak, Mike Zimmer promoted quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski to run the offense the rest of the season.

With two blow out wins 41-17 and 27-9 in the last three weeks of the season, Zimmer removed the interim tag and made Kevin Stefanski his offensive coordinator for the 2019 season.

The Penn graduate joins four other offensive coordinators who have never called a play at any level in their careers. He started his career in Minnesota in 2006 as an assistant to the head coach which he then parlayed into coaching tight ends, running backs and quarterbacks.

It was clear after Zimmer had fired DeFilippo that the defensive minded head coach wanted someone who put more emphasis on running the football.

Taking a look at the first three games of Kevin Stefanski’s play calling career, it was clear there was a philosophy change from DeFilippo. In his first game as interim head coach, the Vikings threw the ball 21 times while they ran it 40 times!

In game two it was a balanced approach of 28 runs vs 28 passes. In the final game of the season in which they were dominated by the Bears it was 33 passes compared to just 15 runs.

Unfortunately, we can’t take too much from this three game set as all three outcomes were very game script dependent. When they had a massive lead they ran the heck out of the football and when trailing double digits they threw it a ton.
