The college football season is still young but these five ranked teams are being put on upset alert in their Week 2 matchups on Saturday?
The first week of the 2019 college football season came and went with little noise in terms of upsets. Every ranked team except for the Oregon Ducks came out of Week 1 with a victory — and they lost to the No. 16 ranked Auburn Tigers in their matchup, so it’s hard to even call that an upset for the previously No. 11 ranked team. As we enter Week 2, though, there are signs that things could change in that regard.
Even if there were not actual upsets, the college football world was left on its toes on a few occasions. The Iowa State Cyclones needed three overtimes to get past Northern Iowa, the Stanford Cardinal barely got past Northwestern, Scott Frost’s Nebraska Cornhuskers let South Alabama hang much closer than they should have and so on.
Now, we enter a second week of the college football season and the stakes are being raised in an undeniable manner. Not only does the No. 1 ranked team in the sport, the Clemson Tigers, welcome the No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies for a huge ACC vs. SEC matchup but fans also get to see a top-10 matchup between the LSU Tigers and Texas Longhorns in Austin.
However good the LSU-Texas matchup could be, though, no one is getting upset in that matchup. That can’t be said for other teams throughout the country, though. When looking at the full slate of games for the ranked teams in the sport, there are some contests that, for one reason or another, stand out as either bad matchups or questionable situations which could lead to an upset.
With that in mind, let’s look at the five ranked college football teams that need to be on upset alert in Week 2 of the 2019 season. If they aren’t ready, they could begin tumbling down the rankings — or even out of the top 25 entirely.
