The NFL season is finally upon us and one of the most exciting parts of Sunday is watching NFL RedZone show us all the big plays and highlights. So, can you watch it without a subscription in Week 1?

The NFL RedZone channel changed the way we watch football forever. Instead of clicking through channels or searching between the different games on our NFL Sunday Ticket package, we get to see every game without paying an arm and a leg. It may not be terribly expensive, but it does cost more to add the channel whether it’s on your TV or the web.

So, is the NFL at least giving us a free preview this week to watch all the games?

The short answer is yes, but only in certain places. Playstation Vue and Sling TV are currently fighting for subscribers, and this will help you the consumer. First, Sony announced they would give a one-week free trial for all Vue subscribers to RedZone. Then, Sling did them one better and offered TWO weeks of free RedZone.

Most cable packages offer the NFL RedZone package for free this week as a preview as well. This allows you to get a taste of the action, but at the same time entices you to want to buy the whole package.

Verizon is actually giving away a nice deal, even though it isn’t free. They are allowing customers to buy RedZone this week for 9.99 for the whole season. This is $25 off the usual price of RedZone, so that’s even better than just the first week free.

With the way cordcutters are taking over, there always has to be a variety of ways to get television coverage. Even with a simple user name and password, you can watch RedZone on the app or on NFL.com. So, this free trial may extend to the internet for Week 1.

Either way, there are myriad ways to watch the NFL this weekend, even if you don’t have a cable package at all.
