Tyreek Hill injury update: No surgery, out a few weeks
Tyreek Hill left Sunday’s game against the Jaguars with a collarbone injury, but the Chiefs won’t be without him for as long as it seemed they could have been.
Each team in Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs-Jacksonville Jaguars game had a significant player suffer a collarbone injury. But while Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles suffered a broken left clavicle and is out indefinitely, Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill reportedly will not need surgery and he’ll only miss a few weeks.
Hill was hit hard along the sideline by Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey in the first quarter on his second of two catches in the game, and he was taken to a local hospital for tests as the injury was apparently of an enhance potential severity according to Chiefs head trainer Rick Burkholder. But it appears Hill has avoided a major fracture, and a several weeks or even season-ending injury.
A few weeks is a open-sounding timetable for Hill to return. But NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport passed along that Hill’s injury is the same one suffered by Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver Jake Kumerow last year. Kumerow missed two months.
With Hill out for most of the game Sunday, Sammy Watkins finished with nine catches for 198 yards and three touchdowns against Jacksonville. Rookie Mecole Hardman, who has drafted in April as a theoretical fill-in for Hill when he was facing a suspension from the league, is clearly in line for a bigger role now after getting one target and zero catches on Sunday.
Being without Hill until November would not be ideal. But the Chiefs offense did just fine mostly without him against the Jaguars, putting up 40 points and 491 yards of offense, and they have enough other talent to keep it rolling at a high level with Patrick Mahomes running the show.
