14. Philadelphia Phillies, 75-69, 3rd in the NL East (ranked 14th last week)

The Phillies are 6-4 over their last 10 games and are sitting 2 games back of the final Wild Card spot behind the Cubs and Brewers at the moment. But despite Philly being very much in the playoff race, all the injuries they’ve sustained has made it even harder to stick around in the playoff hunt.

Offensively, Bryce Harper has carried the Phillies after posting a 1.025 OPS while hitting 11 home runs in August. Harper’s cooled down some in September, but still a force in the Philadelphia lineup. But the Phillies pitching is what’s costing them games, struggling to find reliable starters after losing Jake Arrieta and Jerad Eickhoff for the season. Jason Vargas was added to the rotation at the deadline and Aaron Nola has rebounded well after a rough start to 2019. But the Phillies were already thin on pitching, they just don’t have the arm to seriously compete in a playoff series.

13. Arizona Diamondbacks, 75-70, 2nd in the NL West (ranked 16th last week)

The Diamondbacks had won six-straight and then after a loss to the Dodgers but then won another five-straight game to push within 2.5 games of the final Wild Card spot. The pitching for Arizona recently has been solid, posting a 3.52 ERA over the last two weeks, with only the Rays, Brewers, and Cardinals have a better ERA during that span.

But the Diamondbacks are still dealing with injuries, they were hopeful that starters Luke Weaver and Taijua Walker would be ready for a late postseason push but both seem unlikely to return to the roster at this time. Robbie Ray was dealing with a blister that forced him out of his most recent start, but he is expected to make his next start. But their offense is being almost entirely run through OF Ketel Marte and Eduardo Escobar, both wi

The Red Sox th 30+ home runs this season, but the rest of the offense is truly hit or miss. Arizona needs a lot to go their way, bt 2.5 games out with less than 20 games to play in the season isn’t a bad spot to be.
