NFL recap: Week 1 lessons learned
NFL Recap: Lessons learned
My wife came up with a great idea for me to have a weekly NFL recap article that acts as a look back or lessons learned. Generally, I hate the term “lessons learned” as it reminds me of my day job and meetings we have after a project is finished but it’s a valuable and important tool for anyone who wants to get better at something. Fantasy football is no different whether it be season-long or DFS. Each week, I’m hoping to consolidate some of the more important takeaways from the previous week’s slate of football games and hopefully, you can glean some important information here that will help you in your decision making going forward.
Some of these lessons learned will be confirmation of things we thought coming into the season (THE BROWNS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE). Other lessons learned will be geared more towards things that go against the grain a bit more – of which there was a lot. I think taking a closer look at snap shares, routes run, air yards, target share and things of that nature are going to be really important.
Week 1 was surprising, to say the least with so many things to dive into and unpack. A key point to remember in this article is that correlation does not imply causation. We’re looking at a small sample size and everything in the NFL is matchup dependent. Aside from maybe the Dolphins, there are teams and players that people are already writing off. You can use this article to buy low or sell high in your season-long leagues or target guys who may be low owned (or should perhaps be high owned) in your DFS contests. Combine this with my guy Thunder Dan’s early look at week 2 found here. With that said…let’s dive in!
