WWE Clash of Champions 2019: United States Championship preview
Cedric Alexander has earned his first opportunity at the United States Championship and will take on current champion AJ Styles at Clash of Champions.
Back at Extreme Rules, AJ Styles became WWE United States Champion for the third time. This completed The O.C.’s trifecta of gold with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows holding the Raw Tag Team Championship (at the time).
After spending months toiling on Main Event, Cedric Alexander started making the most of the opportunities he was given. For several weeks, he faced Drew McIntyre. It looked like they might have a match at Extreme Rules, but it didn’t pan out. Alexander then had two excellent showings in the King of the Ring tournament. Last week, prior to facing Baron Corbin in the quarterfinals, Alexander was attacked by Anderson and Gallows. He still made it to his match, but the damage was done. Corbin advanced to this week’s semi-finals.
On this week’s Monday Night Raw, Alexander faced Styles. The match was going well for the Queen City’s Favorite Son when the Good Brothers got involved once again. This time, The Viking Experience came to Alexander’s aid.
Later in the main event, these men squared off in a 10-man tag team match that also included current Raw Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman. Their Clash of Champions opponents, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode, teamed with The O.C.
Alexander finally pinned the United States champion. To celebrate, Stone Cold Steve Austin came to the ring and beer was had.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Alexander had earned his opportunity against Styles and his United States Championship this Sunday, September 15 at Clash of Champions. This will be his biggest match since winning the Cruiserweight Title at WrestleMania 34.
Do you think that Alexander can take the United States championship from The Phenomenal One or will The O.C. ensure that their leader keeps the gold?
