Though the Week 3 college football slate is lean, these five teams can’t let their guard down as they are firmly on upset alert and in danger of losing.

Looking through the slate of Week 3 games in college football, there is not much to get terribly inspired about. Though the battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy between Iowa and Iowa State can be fun, it says a lot about a given week when that’s the marquee matchup on Saturday. But as we look at a week where no ranked teams play one another, that’s the hand that we’ve been dealt.

Given that the week is light on what you would consider high-profile games, college football fans might be inclined to pay less attention to what happens throughout the country on Friday and Saturday. It’s not difficult to see why you would want to do that when one of the biggest matchups of the week, Clemson at Syracuse, features a 28-point spread. However, doing so would be a mistake.

Perhaps the greatest thing about college football is the unpredictability of it. Unless you’re a fan of the team on the wrong end of an upset, there are few things more exciting in sports than watching an underdog rise up and overcome a superior opponent. It’s that variability and the notion that nothing is impossible that makes this sport so enjoyable and thrilling to watch.

So, while there aren’t any top 25 teams facing one another in Week 3, the potential for upsets is certainly there. After all, you need an unranked team facing a ranked team to pull off an upset, right? Well, that’s all that’s on the schedule for Week 3.

On top of that, though, there are various situations and circumstances that have a number of teams throughout the nation looking down the barrel of an upset this weekend. With that in mind, let’s take a look at these five ranked teams in danger of losing and being upset in Week 3 of the 2019 college football season.
