Week 1 NFL MVP Power Rankings
One week into the season and the MVP race is already underway. A few familiar faces fill out the rankings in the Week 1 NFL MVP Power Rankings.
Week One of the NFL season has come and gone and it was filled with exceptional performances all across the NFL. The Vikings steamrolled the Falcons, the Titans halted the hype train that was the Browns and the Patriots maintained dominance in the AFC over a blowout win versus Pittsburgh.
For as long as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award has been handed out in its current form (since 1975), there have only been three positions to win it. Quarterback (33 times), running back (12 times) and linebacker (one time). The most important position in sports, is typically only dethroned in the MVP race in exchange for an extremely special campaign by another player.
Generally, the NFL MVP typically comes down to four or five players which, by approximately Week 8, the field becomes clearer. As for these next few weeks, players will shuffle up and down this list until the true field comes into focus.
These rankings will be updated after the previous week and will factor in the players most recent performances, their season as whole and how well their team is playing in relation to their performances.
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
The first player on this ranking is Dak Prescott. In negotiations for a new contract, Dak has just upped his price tag with his play in Week One. Prescott and the Cowboys throttled the New York Giants in Dallas, 35-17.
He posted a perfect passer rating while finding four different receivers for touchdowns. Prescott was locked in all day and showed why he is on the deserving end of a contract that will net him $30 million per year.
What might be even more impressive than Dak’s 2019 debut, is his offensive coordinator’s first game calling plays. Kellen Moore, the rookie play-caller was exceptional. After four years in the organization which saw three as a backup quarterback and one as quarterbacks coach, the 30-year old did a fine job leading the offense.
On Sunday, Moore’s gameplan accumulated a total of 494 yards, 35 points, zero sacks and turnovers allowed and converting 60 percent on third downs. Moore and Prescott have worked together for Dak’s first three years of his career. It seems the switch to go younger at offensive coordinator is paying off one week into the season.
The upcoming schedule for the Cowboys sends them on the road to Washington for another divisional matchup.
