Fantasy football buy low: Go get Mike Evans

On the heels of a couple down games to start the season, Mike Evans stands as the easiest fantasy football buy low candidate in fantasy right now.

For most of his career, seeing six catches for 89 yards and 13 targets next to Mike Evans’ name on the stat sheet might easily be for one game. But that’s what he has done in two games to start this season, after tallying four receptions (on eight targets) for 61 yards against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night.

An illness limited Evans heading into Week 1, and there was surely some residual effect as he finished with just two catches for 28 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. A matchup against top Panthers’ cornerback James Bradberry was a factor Thursday night, but Evans did manage to reach 10 points in full-point PPR for the week.

Chris Godwin had a nice game Thursday night, with eight receptions for 121 yards and his second touchdown in as many games. But a deeper side-by-side look at him and Evans narrows the gap between the two.

Evans had only one fewer target than Goodwin Thursday night (and a close target share, naturally), along with one more air yard and longer average depth of target.

Since his rookie season, when he had 68 catches and 12 touchdowns, Evans has never had less than 71 receptions in a season. In 2018, he had 86 receptions and set a career-high for yards (1,524) to go with eight touchdowns. In two of the last three seasons, Evans has finished as a top-10 fantasy wide receiver.

There are also some nice matchups coming for Evans and the Tampa Bay pass offense. Week 3 will be against the New York Giants, followed by what is sure to be high-volume games against the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints in Week 4 and Week 5.

Next. Fantasy Football Week 2: Boom or bust. dark

The current Evans owner in your league is quite possibly staring an 0-2 start in the face. So there’s an opportunity to pounce on that panic and buy low on a virtual lock to be a top-10 fantasy receiver when it’s all said and done this year. Go get Mike Evans, if you can.
