Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks was carted off with a lower-body injury after getting hit awkwardly vs. Kentucky.

Feleipe Franks scrambled and had his right leg pinned as he was hit by Kentucky defenders and was in visible pain. The Florida quarterback laid on the field for several moments with the ESPN cameras showing Franks in clear pain. The medical staff came out to treat Franks and an air cast was wrapped around his leg and carted off.

Update (10:10 p.m.): Dan Mullen confirmed after Florida’s win vs. Kentucky that Franks will be out for the season.

ESPN broadcaster Brian Griese speculated Franks suffered a dislocated ankle and will be out for the remainder of the season. ESPN did not show the replay but for those watching live, it was a play that looked bad from the moment Franks was hit and bend over backward.

The broadcast doesn’t show a clear representation of the injury but you can watch the play here if you are so inclined. Franks has had an up and down career at Florida, including telling his own fans to be quiet after they booed him earlier in a game. But no one wants to see this happen to someone who has worked so hard to be in this position. It’s a loss for Florida and their fans.

Tears streamed down the face of Franks as he was carted off and he gave periodic fist pumps to the crowd.

Kyle Trask relieved Franks. He’s played sparingly in six games during his career and will try to lead a comeback vs. Kentucky in the fourth quarter. Kentucky leads 21-10 at the time of the Franks injury.

This injury will have major ramifications on the SEC East race. Kentucky, already playing with their backup quarterback, Sawyer Smith, could get a crucial conference win. Conversely, Florida, who was believed to be the top threat to Georgia could be facing a Gators squad with Trask or Emory Jones.
