Kansas football won a road game vs. a Power 5 for the first time since 2008. A lot has changed since then. Here’s what the world was like back then.

On Friday night, Kansas announced that it was “back.” Well, as “back” as Kansas can be given that the Jayhawks have been abysmal for a very long time and they’re not really all that good right now. But Kansas won! Les Miles led the Jayhawks to a landmark 48-24 win on the road over the Boston College Eagles.

That’s huge for a program that desperately needs wins.

What truly makes the win special for Kansas is that the Jayhawks found a way to win on the road against a Power 5 opponent for the first time since Oct. 4, 2008, when the Jayhawks took down the Iowa State Cyclones.

A lot has happened since then. It was one year removed from Mark Mangino and Todd Reesing leading Kansas football to an Orange Bowl win and a No. 7 ranking in the final AP Poll.

It’s been over a decade and the world has changed considerably in that time. Here’s some of what was going on around the world all the way back in October of 2008:

• Nick Saban had zero national championships yet at Alabama
• Dabo Swinney was a week away from being named the interim head coach at Clemson
• Game of Thrones was 2.5 years away from premiering

• The iPad didn’t exist
• Barack Obama was one month away from being elected
• Donald Trump was getting ready for season 7 of The Apprentice
• Twitter existed, but barely anyone was on it.
• Instagram was eight years away from being a thing
• The first iPhone was one year old
• Beverly Hills Chihuahua was the No. 1 movie at the box office
• Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire,” Rihanna’s “Disturbia” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” were the top singles on the charts
• The economy was, uh, bad, for lack of a better term
• OJ Simpson was found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping
• MESSENGER made its second flyby of Mercury (shout out to NASA for space travel)
• Spotify was launched (shout out to them for creating new ways for us to listen to music)
