With the international break over, the Premier League season’s fifth matchday kicks off. On Saturday, Sheffield United host Southampton at Bramall Lane. The Blades are off to the best start of the three promoted teams this season, picking up five points in their first four games. While the Saints have four points.
In their final game before the international break, Sheffield were able to steal a point from Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Blades were down 2-0 but managed to score twice in the second half. Oliver McBurnie was Sheffield’s most expensive summer signing, arriving from Swansea for over €19 million. McBurnie will start in the front two for Chris Wilder. The Scottish striker scored 22 goals last season in the Championship for Swansea but has only scored once this season for Sheffield.
Southampton held Manchester United to a draw in their last game. Danish center-back Jannik Vestergaard scored the second-half equalizer to help Southampton secure a single point. Vestergaard will anchor the Saints’ defense against Sheffield. The towering center-back is a strong presence in the back for the Saints. Upfront, Southampton will rely on Danny Ings to create scoring opportunities. Ings has one goal and an assist this season after Southampton made Ings’ loan deal permanent in the summer for more than €22 million.
