Fantasy football: Week 3 waiver wire pickups – RB’s

The running back position is always changing. None of these guys are starters but because of injuries, they are getting more playing time.

Raheem Mostert, SF

With the injury to Tevin Coleman, many thought Matt Breida would be the bell-cow running back. That was not the case as Mostert had 13 carries for 83 yards in Week 2. He also had three receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Both running backs will be involved with the offense. They face a Steelers defense that has allowed 61 points in two games. Mostert will be more involved in the passing game while Breida is an effective rusher.

Jaylen Samuels, PIT

As if the Steelers weren’t already struggling, James Conner left their Week 2 game early with a knee issue. While many expect him to suit up for Week 3, stashing Samuels just in case is a good idea.

Samuels had three carries for 18 yards last week. But, if we look at what he did last year with Conner out, that’s when we get excited. In those three weeks he started, he had 42 carries for 223 yards including a 142-yard game, 12 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.

With the change at quarterback and a possible running back injury, Samuels could be in line for a big Week 3 game.

Frank Gore, BUF

Gore had a solid Week 2 game with 19 carries, 68 yards and a touchdown. His value will come based on the status of Devin Singletary. The rookie left the game early with a hamstring injury.

“Coach Sean McDermott said Monday the team is still gathering information regarding Singletary’s hamstring injury and that the running back is day-to-day for now, Chris Brown of the Bills’ official site reports,” according to Rotowire.com (h/t ESPN).

If Singletary is ruled out, Gore will get the majority of carries with Josh Allen taken a few for himself. He and the Bills face the Bengals in Week 3.
