Napoli face Liverpool at the San Paolo on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Liverpool defeated Tottenham to win the Champions League last season. On Tuesday, the Reds’ title defense begins against Napoli. For the second straight season, Liverpool and Napoli were drawn into the same group. Napoli are hoping that this year goes differently, as they failed to get out of the group last year.
Liverpool have won their first five games of the Premier League season, to build an early five-point lead over Manchester City. The Reds are led by their high scoring front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Salah and Mane have both scored four goals this season and have looked virtually unstoppable. At the back, Virgil van Dijk is the best center-back in the world and able to completely shut down opposing strikers. If there is one weakness for Liverpool, it is in-goal, where Adrian is still starting in place of an injured Alisson.
Napoli have won two of their first three games this season. The lone loss was a heartbreaking 4-3 loss against Juventus, that saw Napoli fight back from being down 3-0 only to lose it on an own-goal shortly after tying the game. The strength of the Donkeys is their center-backs. Kalidou Koulibaly and Konstantinos Manolas form what might be the best center-back pairing in Europe. The duo will be busy as they attempt to slow down Liverpool’s attack.
Upfront, Napoli’s top scorer last season, Arkadiusz Milik is unlikely to play with a groin injury. The Donkeys will rely on Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne to carry the load. The duo has combined for five goals in Napoli’s first three games.
