NFL quarterback rankings, Week 2: Patrick Mahomes isn’t human
Trent Dilfer Division
23. Case Keenum (LW: 26)
Keenum has done a fine job as the bridge quarterback to Dwayne Haskins. Although the Redskins are a predictable 0-2, the veteran has thrown for 604 yards and five touchdowns. Not bad for a guy dealt for a seventh-round pick this offseason.
22. Josh Allen (LW: 28)
Allen has looked much more accurate since the first half of Week 1, where he committed four turnovers against the Jets. Still, Allen has much to prove. With both “other” New York teams behind the Bills, how does he play once the schedule gets tougher?
21. Marcus Mariota (LW: 20)
Mariota has to be more daring. Much more daring. The Titans put Adam Humphries, A.J. Brown and Corey Davis around him at receiver, along with a Pro Bowl tight end in Delanie Walker. Still, the former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for 402 yards this season. He needs to take more chances.
20. Jacoby Brissett (LW: 21)
Brissett is a really good backup, and potentially a low-end starter. This season, Brissett has done a nice job on a talented Colts team, helping Indianapolis to a 1-1 start. He’s never going to be a big-play guy, but he’s keeping the offense on schedule.
19. Cam Newton (LW: 17)
Newton is only this low because he’s clearly injured. Against the Buccaneers on Thursday night, Newton was wildly inaccurate in a 20-14 upset loss. After undergoing offseason shoulder surgery and dealing with a preseason foot injury, are the physical tolls catching up?
18. Andy Dalton (LW: 19)
Dalton has thrown for 729 yards this season, more than anybody in football not named Patrick Mahomes. So why this low? Because Dalton has also thrown the ball 93 times, this second-most attempts in the NFL behind Kyler Murray. He’s been good, but not great.
