PGA DFS value plays for The Sanderson Farms Championship
The Sanderson Farms Championship is just around the corner we welcome the second PGA DFS event of the new season down at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. If you caught some of the action from the previous week you would have certainly noticed the emergence of Robby Shelton who took the first-round lead by surprise (but no surprise to us if you stopped by last week), as well as Scottie Scheffler who took front and center stage in round 2.
Sheffler’s debut was ultimately eclipsed by an inspiring 59 by Kevin Chappell who returned back to the PGA Tour after recovering from back surgery which allowed him to overcome years of ailments in relation to his spine. Then, of course, we witnessed an absolutely dominating performance from “Joaco” Niemann as he took home the Greenbrier jacket dispatching the field by a record-setting six strokes for his first PGA Tour win.
If you’ve read my course breakdown you’d have figured by now that the Country Club of Jackson will favor the longer hitter as the championship course does stretch out to over 7,400 yards. Like we did in the previous week is use a combination of stats to look for that fit our theory of choosing the player that fits the course. Of course, all of these value plays will hold considerable risk just as any “punt play” in any respective DFS sport, but what we can do is use the statistics in a manner that will set us up with more upside and give us a better chance at finding that proverbial diamond in the rough. Below are a few picks that I feel show a good chance of finding success this week.
Joseph Bramlett
We will start with Joseph Bramlett (pictured above) not only due to the fact that he had a great week at the Greenbrier coming in at T14, but because he managed to do so gaining +6.6 Strokes Total over the 4 rounds. Bramlett gets the price increase on Fanduel at $8,800 but remains at $7,100 on DraftKings where I believe he is slightly underpriced. If you stopped by last week you’d have read about his few stints at the US Open, but what stands out to me the most is his 310.4 yard average off the tee with a 64.7% accuracy clip during the 2019 KFT Season.
We will need him to be long and in the fairway in order to set up his second shot especially into these longer Par 5’s where he is ranked 6th in the field in proximity 150-175 yards. He was also ranked 12th on the KFT in eagles on the season. As mentioned last week,  he was top 10 in GIR’s among his peers throughout 2019 as well, I like him to have another strong showing at CC of Jackson. Usually where he struggles is with the putter but he managed to gain 5 strokes Putting over 4 rounds at the larger Bermuda greens in WV, this is a trend in the right direction.
Stephan Jaeger
If you’re reading this on Monday and opened your FD or DK app you might be wondering what exactly was in my drink this evening because you will not find Stephan in your list of players to roster. Do not fear as he will be there at minimum salary on Tuesday afternoon as he won the Monday qualifier at the neighboring course, Deerfield GC. Stephan shot an impressive 64 at -8 making birdie at 6 of the first six holes he laid eyes on. Jaeger also had an up and down season on the PGA Tour last season where he would teeter between an MC and a top 20 finish, but over his last 5 events he manages to gain 2.7 strokes tee to green and 1.1 strokes Approach. If he can parlay this momentum from Monday into the weekend at the Sanderson, he should find himself in the top 20 again if not better.
