2020 NFL mock draft: Bengals land Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
When it comes to the NFC, the most well-rounded team I see from the first two weeks would have to be the Dallas Cowboys. Last week, the Cowboys went on the road and thumped the Washington Redskins, winning their second consecutive game against an NFC East opponent, which is huge early on.
There is a lot to like about this team, and it was absolutely crucial that they were able to get Ezekiel Elliott under contract prior to the 2019 season. He is a difference maker on the offensive side of the ball, and has become one of the more consistent backs in all of football since coming into the league.
Another form of consistency for the Cowboys has been tight end Jason Witten, who came out of retirement for 2019, and already has touchdown catches in consecutive weeks. He is up there in age, so the Cowboys may want to consider a tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft, and Albert Okwuegbunam is the only player at his position that I see going in the first round. Would be a nice succession play for Witten.
The New England Patriots deployed Antonio Brown in successful fashion on Sunday, as he caught a touchdown from Tom Brady in the team’s 43-0 thrashing at the hands of the Miami Dolphins. While it remains to be seen whether or not AB will be with the team all season long, they are certainly going to play with their new toy as long as they are allowed to.
Looking ahead to the 2020 NFL Draft, which is something Bill Belichick would not do at this point, it is clear that the Patriots will be picking towards the end of the first round. Alabama defensive tackle Raekwon Davis is a guy I liked to be a first rounder in 2019, and based on what we have seen from him at Alabama this season, his stock should stay in the first next April.
With how good the Patriots have looked over the first two weeks of the season, it would be smart money to bet that they will once again be hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy. If they are picking at No. 32 overall in 2020, they will take the best player available, and if he is there, that means Davis.
