Club Brugge face Galatasaray at Jan-Breydel-Stadion on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The first game of the Champions League group stage kicks off on Wednesday as Club Brugge host Galatasaray in Group A action. Brugge finished second in the Jupiler Pro League last season to qualify for the group stage, while Galatasaray have won the Turkish Super Lig for the past two seasons. Both clubs will have a difficult time getting out of Group A, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain in the group. Instead, the two clubs will focus on finishing third and moving into the Europa League knockout stage.
Club Brugge had to win two qualifying rounds to get into the group stage this season. This will be the seventh time that Brugge have reached the Champions League group stage. The previous six times, Brugge have failed to get out of the group stage. Manager Philippe Clement’s team have yet to lose a game in their 10 games this season. Hans Vanaken and David Okereke have combined for 10 goals this season and will be the focal point of the attack. While captain Ruud Vormer leads the club with eight assists and will look to play the ball through to Vanaken and Okereke from his holding midfield position.
Galatasaray spent the summer upgrading their team. The Lions signed Falcao, Jean Michael Seri, and Steven Nzonzi. The trio should all start against Brugge. Falcao will lead the line for Galatasaray after scoring in his debut. At 33-years-old, Falcao is no longer among the best strikers in the world but still capable of scoring goals. Seri and Nzonzi will start in midfield. Nzonzi will provide cover for the center-backs, using his defensive abilities to limit any Brugge attacks. While Seri will play between the boxes, tracking back defensively but also pushing forward and getting in on the attack.
