The Champions League group stage begins on Wednesday as Olympiacos host Tottenham in Athens. A season ago, Tottenham lost in the Champions League final to Liverpool. Since 2011, Olympiacos have qualified for the Champions League six times but have only advanced out of the group stage once.
Olympiacos finished second in the Greek Super League last season and went through the qualifying rounds to reach the group stage. The Athens club did not lose during the qualifying rounds and outscored their opponents 13-1. Olympiacos have had a perfect start to the Greek Super League season, winning all three of their games. Youssef El Arabi and Mathieu Valbuena will front the attack for Olympiacos. The duo has combined for seven goals and six assists.
Tottenham have started the season slowly, picking up only eight points in their first five Premier League games. Mauricio Pochettino will be shorthanded going into Tottenham’s first Champions League game this season. Midfielders Ryan Sessegnon, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are all dealing with injuries that will likely keep them from playing against Olympiacos. Pochettino will have to decide on which formation and combination of players he decides to start on Wednesday. Harry Kane and Lucas Moura both scored five goals in Spurs Champions League campaign last season. The duo will be counted on again this season to score goals for Tottenham.
