Previewing the September 18 episode of NXT UK, featuring a British Rounds Match between Kassius Ohno and Sid Scala.

Is Kassius Ohno British? Let’s look at the facts. On one hand, he’s from Ohio, has an American accent and wears gear that exclusively references American sports teams. On the other hand, he’s from Ohio. The answer is probably no. And yet, Kassius Ohno is on NXT UK calling himself the greatest living British wrestler.

Since arriving on the brand, Ohno has been effectively waging war, targeting NXT UK’s more agile contingent — Kenny Williams, Mark Andrews — along with others he doesn’t take seriously, and mostly finding success. He handed Ilja Dragunov his first loss!

After Ohno defeated actual British person Jack Gallagher via tricky means — moving Gallagher’s foot out from under the rope before the referee could notice — the two were set to have a rematch on the post-but-actually-taped-pre-TakeOver: Cardiff episode. Unfortunately, the second edition of The Great British Grappling Show never happened, as Gallagher was not medically cleared to compete. Forced to scramble for a replacement Johnny Saint and Sid Scala scoured the entire roster, crunched the numbers, and settled on Scala himself as Ohno’s opponent.

Despite valiantly standing up for himself, Scala was beaten down and defeated by the much larger and ring-ready Ohno. After all, not only has Scala been a non-entity as a wrestler since becoming Assistant to the General Manager, but he was also competing in business formal attire. Can’t get much range of motion in that stuff!

Disapproving of some of Ohno’s more unsavory tactics though, Saint and Scala agreed that that match should not be the end of the story. Since Ohno thinks himself so British, they decided to make him prove it, having a rematch with Scala in the most British kind of match possible, the appropriately named British Rounds Match.

If you’re at all confused as to what a British Round Match actually is, it’s really what it sounds like: a match occurring in Britain that has rounds. As explained via a helpful video that WWE had locked and ready to go despite only announcing the thing minutes earlier, the match will be made up of six three-minute rounds, with 30 second breaks in between each round. To win, a competitor must gain either two falls, two submissions, a knockout, or be leading in total falls by the end of the final round.
