Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: No. 2)

If we ranked only the second quarter for all of these players, Mahomes would be number 1. He put up 28 points in the second quarter and that was all the Kansas City Chiefs needed to defeat the Oakland Raiders.

Without his top weapon Tyreek Hill, Mahomes did just fine with backup wide receivers Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson who combined for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

A slow start is inevitable from time to time. Most notably against divisional opponents. Probably one of the most impressive throws for Mahomes on the day was a deep ball to Hardman that was ultimately called back due to holding. Hardman shot out of a cannon and Mahomes threw an off balance beauty to Hardman in stride. Below is the throw, per Seth Keysor, of The Athletic on Twitter.

One of the most impressive things with Mahomes is the ease to which his throws appear. A simple flick of the wrist is all it takes. If he keeps this up, he’s on the verge of jumping the quarterback in New England.

Mahomes is in for it in Week Three when he’ll be across the field from Lamar Jackson. Hint: this game will affect these rankings in Week Three.
