Kylie Rae set to make pro wrestling return on Saturday
Kylie Rae is set to return to action on Saturday night, marking her first match since mid-June.
It’s been since June that Kylie Rae has wrestled a match, and in August she also went dark on social media. While it was reported over the summer that Rae was “dealing with a medical issue” per the Wrestling Observer (h/t Fightful), the thought at the time was that she’d return to action in a short while.
But Rae, one of the earliest signings to All Elite Wrestling’s women’s division and a very popular independent wrestler, spent an extended time out of public eye. And when Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp asked AEW president Tony Khan about Rae’s status with the company following All Out on August 31, Khan said that Rae asked for and was granted her release.
It was an amicable split, but also one that left fans wondering whether that would signal the end of Rae’s pro wrestling career. However, it appears that Rae is ready to return to the ring. On Saturday, Chicago-based independent promotions Freelance Wrestling and Freelance Underground announced that Rae will take part in the co-promoted Game of the Genders event, replacing Shotzi Blackheart, who was scheduled to take on Isaias Velazquez. Said show also takes place on Saturday (today).
The surprise announcement means that Rae will return to the ring in front of a hometown crowd. Rae’s last AEW match took place at Double or Nothing in women’s four-way match. Her last match in Chicago was on June 14 at Freelance vs. The World 5, in which she defeated Frank the Clown and Robert “Ego” Anthony in a handicap match.
We’ll find out later on Saturday whether Rae addresses her absence publicly. But more importantly, Rae is making her return, something the world of pro wrestling has been waiting to see happen for months. Whatever kept her out this summer appears to be resolved.
