Fantasy Football Impact: What’s Next for Antonio Brown?
After all the drama going on with Antonio Brown and the Oakland Raiders, we all thought that just maybe things will finally settle down for him once he signed with the New England Patriots. Brown was at last on a team he felt happy and excited to be a part of, or so we thought. The fantasy football impact seemed obvious, upside.
The falling outs he had with both the Steelers and Raiders over the course of the past eight months were tumultuous, to say the least.
From demanding to be traded from Pittsburgh, to calling out ex-Steelers teammates, to frost-bitten feet, to helmet issues, to burning bridges in Oakland and heading to New England in a matter of less than a year we’ve seen it all, or at least that’s what we thought.
Little did we know that there was more to come even after Brown was heading to a well-structured organization like the Patriots. A lot of people including myself were hopeful that Brown would finally leave aside the off-field antics and get back to what really matters, and that is playing football to help his team win their seventh Lombardi trophy in franchise history.
Just like the rest of the hopeful pupils of this sport, we were all sorely disappointed when recent rape allegations involving Brown arose shortly after his arrival in Massachusetts. Despite all that, Brown managed to get on the field with his new teammates last Sunday against the Dolphins in Miami. He had an impressive Patriots’ debut catching four passes for 56 yards and a score.
I still was hoping that everything would be alright, but the negativity swirling around Brown never seemed to cease. The latest news came out involving Brown threatening another woman through text messages, who spoke out against him about sexual harassment.
It was here that after reviewing the evidence, the Pats had to cut their losses and move on from Antonio Brown. Keep in mind this was just eleven days after they signed him.
Now Brown is without a team once again, and he claims that he is done playing football for the foreseeable future. It doesn’t matter anyway, because even if Brown was interested in trying to find another team to join so soon after what happened, the league is looking into the evidence and may decide to suspend him for a while.
Either way, this is a very disappointing development involving such a talented player that graced the gridiron. Brown has dominated the league between 2013 through 2018 where he caught 686 passes for 9,142 yards and 67 touchdowns.
What’s exactly next for the talented wideout? I’m not quite sure. I don’t believe he will be playing football for the remainder of this season. Beyond that point, I can’t really say. All I do know is that Brown’s reputation has seriously gotten a lot of damage lately, and maybe a chance to step away from the game for a bit could do him some good.
He could possibly work on himself and seek help for the problems he is going through because this is something that’s been happening way too often over the last several months.
I sincerely hope he can get to a better place mentally and physically before making another attempt at joining an NFL team. It’s worth monitoring his progress and how he’s handling himself during this time away from the sport that helped make him so great. Stay tuned for the up-to-the-minute updates.
