Early DraftKings college football wide receiver picks September 28

Top Tier:

Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs are both putting up massive numbers, but I think I prefer Sage Surratt over both of them. Sure, Surratt loses some catches to Scotty Washington, but those two actually have averaged more DraftKings points per game than the more famous Alabama tandem because Wake actually needs to use their guys to win. A Wake stack as pivot is a great idea, especially after seeing Kansas scorch BC deep a couple of weeks ago.

We saw last week what these USC receivers can do. The Washington defensive backs are a strength, but Michael Pittman and Tyler Vaughns are among the best receivers in college. Matt Fink didn’t miss them much at all. Just because he’s USC’s third stringer doesn’t mean that Fink can’t still ball. I like the USC tandem as well if you are going to roll two pairs of receivers.

This isn’t the same Texas Tech offense of Mike Leach and Kliff Kingsbury. There is one go-to receiver now, and it’s T.J. Vasher. That said, CeeDee Lamb is unquestionably the Sooners’ number one guy and he’s cheaper than Vasher. Roll with Lamb in this game for sure.

Middle Tier:

This Virginia defense is solid, but every time Notre Dame needed a big play last week, they looked for Chase Claypool. Claypool has at least 14 DraftKings points in all three games so far. The Irish are looking for him first I the passing game. In a game where they may have to throw to win, Claypool is worth the price.

The Arkansas defense has been nothing short of awful, especially in the passing department. Jhamon Ausbon and Quartney Davis are two big time receivers without big time pricing. The Piggies usually play A&M tough in Jerry World, but I fail to see a scenario in which Ausbon and Davis don’t both have good games.

Andrew Parchment has at least 100 yards receiving in three of the four games so far, including 13 receptions for 232 yards with four touchdowns in the last two weeks alone. If Kansas is going to pull the upset, Parchment is going to rip off a couple more big plays. He’s a strong play for the price.

Eason to Fuller has become the cornerstone of the Huskies offense in 2019. I don’t know that I trust Eason enough against this USC front, especially with so many other good options at quarterback. At receiver though, Fuller is fairly cheap and easily the target leader for the Huskies.

The Sooners finally have a number two receiver. It’s Rambo. No, not John. Charleston. Rambo went nuts against UCLA and has at least one touchdown in every game so far. I love Rambo as a mid-range play in what is always a high scoring game against Texas Tech.

Bargain Shoppers:

Lost among the hype of the top two USC receivers is the play of Amon-Ra St. Brown. St. Brown would start on a lot of teams. Being the number three receiver at USC used to mean you didn’t get a lot of looks. However, with the new air raid scheme, St. Brown has flourished. He is feast or famine most weeks, and will be against Washington, but he’s a strong GPP dart for the price.

Iowa State is probably going to throw a lot against this week. I hinted earlier that I don’t but Baylor’s strong defensive numbers. All of the Cyclones receivers are cheap, and I really love Deshaunte Jones for the price. Tarique Milton is a home run threat every time he touches the ball as well. There may even be enough to go around to consider La’Michael Pettway. Jones is a must for me though. The others are negotiable.

Jadan Blue already has 23 receptions in three games for Temple. Georgia Tech has been a solid pass defense, but that’s mostly because teams have run on them and not stopped because the Bees can’t stop them. Temple is more of a passing team, so I expect to see Blue heavily involved once again. Blue has a high floor due to all of the targets coming his way.

There are a dozen high risk-high reward plays in the lower tier tonight. The key is finding how much risk you can live with. Can you live with using Baylor’s third receiver? Texas Tech’s? Can you live with using a receiver from a team that throws six times a game? Whichever ones of those you answer yes to will determine the amount of acceptable risk at the bottom. I’m leaning towards Charlie Kolar and Amari Rodgers, but both carry huge risk.
