DFS Advice: Defenses to Sit

Cowboys D/ST @ NO

Much like the Buffalo Bills, the Cowboys are another defense I’d stray off the path of this week mainly because of the match-up. Dallas struggled to do much of anything against the lowly Miami Dolphins during the first half last week. They eventually got it going, but it was a little unsettling seeing them struggle against such a decimated opponent.

Now the Cowboys will have the privilege of taking on an explosive Saints’ offense, even without their leader Drew Brees at the helm. The Saints are still a very talented offensive unit despite the fact that a future Hall of Famer in Brees will not be participating in this week’s contest. They still were able to hang 33 points on Seattle showing no signs of slowing down towards their ultimate goal this year and that is to win a second Lombardi trophy in franchise history.

Buccaneers D/ST @ LAR

I’m not buying into Tampa Bay’s defensive system just yet. They struggled against a rookie quarterback in Daniel Jones last week as he threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns. He also backed it up with an additional 28 rushing yards and a pair of scores as well. Tampa Bay should have shut down an inexperienced signal-caller in Jones, especially since that was his first-ever career start.

Now the Buccaneers will have to go up against a much more talented Rams roster which boasts the eighth-most points scored up to this point. While I know the Rams haven’t been as explosive as they were last year, they still have pretty much all of the same weapons from that unit such as Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, and Cooper Kupp. This team is just ready to take the lid off a defense, and I fear that might be Tampa’s fate.

Bills D/ST vs. NE

I really do like Buffalo’s defense, but the problem at hand this week is that they are playing New England. A team apparently on a mission as they have slaughtered every opponent this year through the chopper. They currently rank in the top-five in both points scored and total passing yards this year. Their one weakness is the rushing category, but again they do have James White who is an effective pass-catching back. Sony Michel may not be rushing efficiently, but he’s still managed to find the end zone in his last two games. While the Bills are a really solid defense to start in most situations, this is one of the very rare cases where I would seek other choices.
