Alabama is good. National title-contending good. Ole Miss is not good. Not good at all. Things are likely to get ugly when the two teams meet in Tuscaloosa.

For some reason, CBS wants to show the college football viewing world a blowout by making Alabama vs. Ole Miss the marquee afternoon game.

The Crimson Tide hasn’t been as sharp as it could be and there are injuries to several key Alabama players to start this season. If this were a Hugh Freeze team with Chad Kelly or Bo Wallace at the helm of the offense, that could mean some reason for concern for Nick Saban’s squad. But the Rebels don’t have Freeze or Kelly or Wallace or really much going for them right now.

Ole Miss lost to Cal in a game that the Rebels were robbed of at least a chance at overtime in. That loss set Matt Luke’s team to 2-2, with the wins coming over Arkansas (who just lost to San Jose State) and Southeastern Louisiana. There’s little to indicate that this game will be a challenge for Bama.

As long as Tua Tagovailoa is healthy and scoring touchdowns seemingly every other second, the Crimson Tide should be able to beat Ole Miss with ease. Bama has had some struggles to get much of a running game going, but Tagovailoa has thrown for 1.300 yards and 17 touchdowns. Alabama should be able to score points. The Tide will probably score plenty of them.

Prediction

There was a time when this match up provided some remarkable and crazy games. The Rebels, at one point, actually beat Nick Saban in back-to-back seasons. But it’s been several years since that happened. And Ole Miss hasn’t been the same since Freeze’s tenure ended in scandal. Alabama shouldn’t experience too much difficulty winning this one.

Score: Alabama 52, Ole Miss 13
