A record-setting day from Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith puts Alabama’s dangerous offense at a whole new level.

It was another day of domination for the Crimson Tide. They rode a second-half surge to a 59-31 win over the Ole Miss Rebels. While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will, of course, grab headlines for a seven-touchdown performance, it was the record-setting day of a wide receiver that shows how scary this offense.

It came from the often forgotten man in the offense, wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Smith had 11 catches for 274 yards and five touchdowns, the latter two being new Alabama single-game records. His four touchdowns in the second quarter would be a good season for many No. 3 receivers. But Smith is no ordinary No. 3 receiver and this Alabama offense is not your ordinary offense.

After last year’s offense set all sorts of records, Smith’s development makes this an even more dangerous offense.

It wasn’t just that he produced in a major way, it’s that he did it in a variety of ways. From winning in tight coverage down the field to making defenders miss in open space and finishing off a play with his speed, Smith can do it all as a receiver.

Everyone knows about reigning Biletnikoff Award winner and potential top-5 NFL Draft pick, Jerry Jeudy. And everyone knows about the ultra-fast Henry Ruggs III. But now everyone should know about Smith after his record-breaking performance vs. Ole Miss.

As his day will grab the headlines, it puts defenses in a serious bind. How do you cover these three? And how do you cover all three while getting pressure on Tua, all while remembering this team has two running backs who do some damage as well?

Smith’s big day puts one thought in defensive coordinators’ heads. This offense is now at a new level when it comes to the danger meter, and it will keep everyone up at night.
