Fantasy Football: Why I overspent on Wayne Gallman

This week there was one player who was an obvious add on the fantasy football waiver wire. When Saquon Barkley went down his backup became the debatable number 1 add for your league’s free-agent waivers. There is a reason he is the backup, I don’t think that he would start for any other franchise. He is definitely NOT the best backup in the league. The title says it all, yes I overbid on Wayne Gallman. I didn’t go crazy but this is why I overspent on Wayne Gallman.

So far this has been a bad year for the waiver wire. Through three weeks there has not been the must adds that there seems to be every year. I don’t know if that changes anytime soon. It seems every season there are great adds to go out and bid on to help your team but not yet. Maybe it will come soon but I haven’t seen that guy yet. There have been a ton of injuries but still no one that serious. I can think of maybe Terry McLaurin or Marquise “Hollywood” Brown but it hasn’t lasted. I guess you can also throw Mark Andrews on that list.

Wayne Gallman is the man for the Giants at running back and I pounced like a hungry mountain lion. The lack of meat has me hungry and I went for it. It really matters how you spend your FAAB. I try to stay on the conservative side so I will have some left for the playoffs if I make it of course. I have gone through the playoffs before with zero free agent money left so it has made me more cautious. I do however spend it if I think the player is worth it. Gallman was not the guy to blow money on.

Why not go after Gallman aggressively? If Barkley plays again this year (I don’t think he will) I will be very surprised. What am I giving up? I was looking at my bench and I have players like Kalen Ballage, Dare Ogunbowale, Nyheim Hines and Dion Lewis. I would MUCH RATHER have Gallman than one of these guys.

You have to remember in fantasy football you are not always buying a player, I am buying his CHANCES to score. Out of those RB’s I mentioned earlier who is going to have more carries, targets, and receptions? GALLMAN! Look, is he going to take me to the playoffs and/or the championship? Hell no but he will give me better depth. In Fantasy Football you want the players who have the most chances to score points. A great player can not score if he is sitting on the bench. Its simple math if player A has 10 carries and player B has 3 who is going to potentially score more? It doesn’t matter who is better! Give me that all day and twice on Sunday.

So I bet you are wondering how much did I spend on Gallman? Like I said I didn’t go crazy but I did go 50 percent. I told myself that I wouldn’t go higher and you know what? I was awarded him in like 95 percent of my leagues and that makes me very happy.

You can call me what you want but I love fantasy football and I love to win. If that means I have to overspend on a player like Gallman then I am ok with it. My favorite analyst doesn’t seem to agree with me as he said that you shouldn’t go over 20 percent but I think that he is wrong. I don’t really care how good or bad a player is, I want whoever is going to score the most points on my roster. If that player’s team is setting him up to score points sign me up.
