Vontaze Burfict with the dirtiest hit in NFL history (Video)
Vontaze Burfict was out headhunting once again, and it will likely cost him and the Raiders significantly once the league comes down on him.
Things looked to be going very well for the Oakland Raiders as they took on the Indianapolis Colts, but now they lost one of their key defenders as Vontaze Burfict has gone and done it again, and they’ll likely be missing him far beyond the rest of Sunday’s game against the Colts.
After Colts tight end Jack Doyle dropped to his knees after catching a pass for a five yard gain , Burfict lowered his helmet directly into Doyle’s head and showed no mercy in finishing his hit, plowing right through Doyle head first.
The Raiders at first penalized 15 yard for unnecessary roughness, but after review in New York, Burfict was rightfully removed from the game and in all likelihood will face further discipline from league, especially given his rich history.
Burfict has been known for his questionable hits in the past during his seven years with the Cincinnati Bengals, with ten games worth of suspensions and more than $4.2 million of forfeited money through fines and missed time during his time with the Bengals. But the Raiders were hoping that he would be different this year after signing him to a one year contract and naming him team captain. Through the first three games everything seemed just fine, with Burfict racking up 17 tackles through the first three weeks of the season.
This latest batch of headhunting puts the Raiders in an unfavorable spot. They were already short at the linebacker position, but Burfict was their defensive captain That duty now falls to Burfict’s replacement, Tahir Whitehead.
The Raiders are looking to avoid a 1-3 start to the season again the Colts, and led the game 21-10 at halftime despite Burfict’s ejection from the game.
