The second Champions League group stage games kick off on Tuesday. After losing their opening game of the tournament to Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid return to the Santiago Bernabeu to host Club Brugge. The Belgian club were held to a scoreless draw in their opening game against Galatasaray.
Since losing to PSG, Real Madrid have not conceded a goal in three La Liga games and picked up seven points to move into first place. Zinedine Zidane’s team will look to rebound against Brugge following their disappointing start to the group stage.
Madrid captain Sergio Ramos returns to the lineup after serving a suspension and should help improve Real’s defense after a poor performance against PSG. Karim Benzema leads Real with five goals this season and will again start up top for Zidane. Eden Hazard has struggled in his first few games with Real. Hazard has started to look a little more comfortable with his new teammates in recent games. If Hazard can get going, Madrid could have a strong attack with Benzema and Gareth Bale.
In 14 games across all competitions this season, Club Brugge are unbeaten. Philippe Clement’s team is averaging more than two goals per game and will look to break down a Real Madrid back four that struggled against PSG. Hans Vanaken and David Okereke have combined for 13 goals this season, while Ruud Vormer has assisted on nine goals.
Brugge have only allowed three goals in the Jupiler Pro League but have allowed four goals between Champions League qualifying and the group stage. The Belgian club will have their defense tested by Real, easily the biggest club they have faced this season.
