Daily Fantasy Football: Defense Pivots

Chalk: Patriots, Panthers

Pivots: Steelers, Bucs

Listen, you should definitely get some exposure to the Patriots defense this week. At 4300, they are expensive but are in a better spot than any other defense this week as they are going to face a lousy Redskins offense and a turnover-prone quarterback (whoever that might be). This Patriots defense has been impressive all season long and could absolutely feast on Washington.

But if you want to save several thousand in cap space, then you really should consider two really cheap defenses this week. First, we have the Bucs defense at only 2200 on the road against the Teddy Bridgewater-led Saints. The Saints were only able to muster four field goals last week against Dallas, while the Bucs posted 15 DK points against a good Rams defense and picked off Jared Goff three times.

This Tampa defense has scored at least 8 DK points in all their games this year and has cracked double digits twice. The Saints have relied heavily on the run game in Drew Brees’s absence, which is Tampa’s strength. New Orleans has only allowed Bridgewater to throw it 27-30 times a game, but he may have to sling it more often than that this week if they want to win and this opportunistic Bucs defense may be able to take advantage.

The Steelers defense is only 2100 and coming off their best performance of the season against the Bengals on Monday night. They’re the second cheapest defense on the slate despite the fact that they’ve posted double-digit DK points in two straight games, piling up 9 sacks and 3 picks in those games.

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore offense have come back to earth after they crushed a couple of cake matchups early and I think the Steeler match up well with what Baltimore is going to try to do offensively. They are certainly worth a flyer at this price based on their ability to rush the passer and create turnovers.
