In fairness to Sarri, though, the Turin giants’ displays had already been far from great throughout the second half of last season.

There are so many narratives surrounding this game, most notably that current Inter coach and director of sport Giuseppe Marotta were both key architects of Juventus’ resurgence at the start of the decade, and that the game will renew the battle between Diego Godin and Cristiano Ronaldo, who faced off so many times during their time in Madrid.
