On Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund finally kicked their nasty habit of failing to win despite playing well, a run of games that had seen them snatch a draw from the jaws of victory against Barcelona, Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen. That 0-2 away win over Slavia Prague will probably have settled some nerves, as well as easing the pressure on Lucien Favre.
Freiburg are enjoying an excellent campaign so far under their likable and charismatic coach Christian Streich. Indeed, the Black Forest club come into this match five places and two points above today’s opponents. Their defensive record is particularly impressive, with only Wolfsburg having conceded fewer goals.
However, this is Freiburg’s first game of the season against one of the Bundesliga’s big teams. With a visit from Leipzig also due in October, by the end of the month, we’ll have a much better idea of their credentials.
