Fantasy football impact: Trends and stories to know

Should You Trade Stefon Diggs?

Let’s face it, the Minnesota Vikings’ offense looks absolutely dreadful. I feel like we keep bringing this fantasy football subject up just about every other day, but it’s hard to resist not mentioning it. There was so much hope and promise surrounding this team about two years ago after being just one win away from going to the Super Bowl.

The Vikings believed they were just one or two pieces removed from getting to the promised land and win the city it’s first-ever Lombardi trophy. Minnesota was under the impression that they had finally found the missing link. The one part that was absent from their deep playoff run in 2017. His name is Kirk Cousins and the Vikings have invested $84 million for three years to win them a championship.

Unfortunately, he has not lived up to the hype and it’s greatly affecting his teammates around him. Both Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are suffering greatly from Cousins’ poor play on the field.

At first, a lot of us felt frustrated but we decided to be patient and express optimism for a quick turnaround. We are still waiting for this turnaround, and it is at this point where the question is becoming ever more prevalent. Should you trade Stefon Diggs?

Through four games played in 2019, Diggs has struggled to put up respectable fantasy numbers on a consistent basis. He currently is averaging 3.2 receptions/gm (51st), 4.8 targets/gm (55th), and 9.5 fantasy points/gm (58th).

These numbers are simply unacceptable for any wide receiver, and especially for someone of Diggs’ caliber is even worse. At this point, it’s a toss-up as to whether or not Diggs will be able to right the ship.

If the Vikings’ offensive coordinator continues to use him sparingly and Kirk Cousins fails to improve, then trading him would be your best option. Given his upside and potential to produce, he will have a market available if you decide to put him on the block.

Be careful when you pull the trigger though. After the recent development of Diggs expressing his displeasure with his role in Minnesota’s offense, we may see something change for the better in Week 5 and beyond.

If he does improve and it stays that way for several weeks after that, then trading him would probably not be your best option. However, if the Vikings do not change their game plans, then I say offer him up on the trade block after this Sunday’s match-up against the Giants.

This Sunday is the ultimate test to determine whether or not fantasy managers should either hang on or trade away Stefon Diggs from their rosters. Good luck to those of you who have him! I feel your pain, I have Thielen so I’m in a similar predicament.
