DraftKings college football showdown picks October 9

We have our first Wednesday college football game of the season, so it gets its own DraftKings college football showdown slate. What’s the best way to attack this? There are several strategies.

Unlike the NFL showdowns, in the DraftKings college football showdown there are no defenses to pick. That limits the options for going cheap. However, there are still kickers in here.

But Mike, you say. I don’t really know anything about Louisiana, Appalachian State, their conferences, coaches, or DraftKings college football in general. The good news is for those of you that play the NFL showdown slates – hell, even the MLB and NBA showdown slates – is that nothing really changes. You still have to pay 1.5x market value for a captain, then you can fill the rest of your roster with whatever you want. You just have to have at least one player from each team.

The one notable difference in the DraftKings college football showdown tournament is that you cannot choose a defense. I’ll tell you that this is for obvious reasons. Defense is not a college level course for most schools. Don’t fret though! It just opens more offensive options.

Kickers are really only worth it if you see it being a high scoring game or a game of field goals. In this matchup, I would vote for the former.

Appalachian State is average 47 points per game with the low mark being the 34 they got against North Carolina in the upset in Chapel Hill. The Cajuns have averaged 44.4 points per game with their low mark being 28 in the opening loss to Mississippi State. That is the only loss for either team coming into this one, so we have a good matchup here.

This could be a matchup that will be revisited in the Sun Belt Championship game on December 7. No one else is close to Louisiana in the West. That means little to us right now.

Both teams can rack up the yards, and both teams give up their fair share. The Cajuns have accumulated more and given up less. Their passing offense and stable of running backs are particular strengths.

The Mountaineers have the best player in the Sun Belt in RB Darrynton Evans and an experienced offense that can pick up yards in a hurry. The over/under on this is at 68.5 right now, so Vegas expects it to be high scoring as well. I would probably bet the over on that.

I expect this game to be on the lower end of the scoring spectrum, so it is especially important to get the key pieces of each offense for this DraftKings college football showdown matchup. That’s hard to do right? Especially when you can’t punt with a defense. Not necessarily. There are some sneaky plays in here that can open everything up. Let’s dig in to this interesting DraftKings college football showdown!
