DraftKings PGA: 2019 Houston Open Picks and Analysis
This week the PGA Tour traverses the desert in a return to Houston. The Houston Open is typically played the week before the Masters, but is now apart of the new swing season schedule. The par-72, 7,400 yard Golf Club of Houston plays host to this event. Be careful when looking back at past results, because the course has recently underwent changes to the greens and the rough. Ian Poulter won the 2018 edition with a score of 19-under, shooting a one over 73 in his opening round of play. The king of GC Houston Russell Henley won the 2017 edition at 20-under par and Henley has finished inside the top-10 at this tournament every year since 2013.
The tour returns to Bermudagrass from the Shriners Bent and Safeway Poa. Texas typically boasts Bentgrass, so we will see what effect the new bermudagrass greens have on these golfers, in particular Texas guys who have good course history on Bentgrass or at the old setup.
Texas is also typically known for windy conditions. Most rounds here over the past few years have been played with at least moderate winds. Familiarity with these conditions is a major advantage, and is a factor why there are course horses at Golf Club of Houston.
Before we get into the picks, I will commend Kevin Na for another PGA Tour victory. I love the fire that Na plays with, even if he did take down a golfer that I was heavily overweight on in Patrick Cantlay. I should have known not to fade Na in his home state.
