Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 6 BOOM or BUST!

Week 5 Recap:

Somebody told Aaron Jones that he was picked as a “BUST” again, didn’t they? What will quite possibly be my worst take of the year in fantasy football lineup advice, I advised you to sit Jones against Dallas, and of course, he ended up with almost 3x as many points as any of my “BOOM” picks. Well done, Mr. Jones, never will I doubt your abilities again. As we all saw this past week, in fantasy football, the unlikely becomes reality so often. As much as we analysists dig for stats and info, we can never correct 100 percent of the time.

With that being said, we were right-on with the other busts, as Philip Rivers crashed and burned against the Broncos, Curtis Samuel was suffocated by the Jags’ cornerback tandem, and Wayne Gallman struggled to get going before exiting with a concussion. Lastly, Jarvis Landry was the only pass-catcher able to muster any sort of production in a putrid showing by the Browns offense and Vernon Davis was held out after failing to pass through the league’s concussion protocol.

I’ll admit, many of the BOOMs never took flight, either, but none really played poorly enough to ruin owners’ weeks. Devonta Freeman was the highest-scoring of the bunch, proving his newfound receiving role should give him a safe floor in the future. Although Jacoby Brissett was solid in an upset victory against the Chiefs, his fantasy score sure didn’t reflect it. Mark Ingram, Tyler Lockett, and Larry Fitzgerald all were fine, but each seemed just a play or two away from having big games.

All in all, nailing 7 of 12 picks isn’t all that bad, but we’ll make sure we’re better this week.

BOOM Picks:

QB Jacoby Brissett @ KC – 151 passing yards, INT, 9 rushing yards, TD (10.9 points)

RB Mark Ingram @ PIT – 44 rushing yards, TD, 2 receptions for 5 yards (12.9 points)

RB Devonta Freeman @ HOU – 30 rushing yards, 5 receptions for 40 yards, TD (18 points)

WR Tyler Lockett vs. LAR – 4 receptions for 51 yards, TD, -8 rushing yards (14.3 points)

WR Larry Fitzgerald @ CIN – 6 receptions for 58 yards (11.8 points)

TE Jimmy Graham @ DAL – 3 receptions for 41 yards (7.1 points)

BUST Picks:

QB Philip Rivers vs. DEN – 211 passing yards, 2 INT, -3 rushing yards (4.1 points)

RB Aaron Jones @ DAL – 107 rushing yards, 4 TD, 7 receptions for 75 yards (49.2 points) — LOL

RB Wayne Gallman vs. MIN (*INJ) – 14 rushing yards (1.4 points)

WR Jarvis Landry @ SF – 4 receptions for 75 yards (11.5 points)

WR Curtis Samuel vs. JAX – 3 receptions for 19 yards, 25 rushing yards (7.4 points)

TE Vernon Davis (*OUT) vs. NE – (0 points)

Total Correct Picks – 7/12

"DISCLAIMER: “BOOM or BUST” isn’t exactly a “Start or Sit” column. I identify and provide analysis for players who aren’t a top-tier starting option that I believe will exceed expectations – and also those who will fail to meet them. It should be remembered that these picks are done at the beginning of the week, so better options may surface as the week progresses and we get a better idea on various injuries and player situations. Use your best judgement and keep tabs on news updates around the league up until kickoff on Sunday… Without further ado, let’s dive right into this week’s matchups!"
