Welcome to Week 6’s NFL DFS game-by-game breakdown! These will be weekly pieces that are published every Wednesday or Thursday morning, giving you a comprehensive look at every single game of the week from Thursday through Monday.

What a wild week in the NFL. I can’t remember the last time that we had 4 different players top 40 fantasy points (0.5-point PPR scoring) that drastically heightened the overall scoring, but here we are. Below is a list of the top 5 NFL DFS v producers last week with their overall totals from both FanDuel and DraftKings;

  1. Will Fuller V (FD: 46.7, DK: 56.70)
  2. Aaron Jones (FD: 45.7, DK: 52.20)
  3. Christian McCaffrey (FD: 44.7, DK: 50.70)
  4. DeShaun Watson (FD: 41.74, DK: 44.74)
  5. Michael Thomas (FD: 35.7, DK: 44.20)

On a normal week, if you had one of the above players, you were sitting pretty and feeling confident. Last week, however, if you had one of them, you were sweating. If you had two, you were feeling okay, but it took 4 or even having all 5 of them to go deep into GPP territory, illustrating how crazy week 5 was as a whole. Obviously we cannot expect this type of explosive production week in and week out, but it paints an important picture regarding trends and how to spot them. Take Will Fuller, for example. Up until last week, he was widely regarded as the unluckiest football player in the league, with his massive amount of air yards heavily outweighing his actual receiving yards, indicating that he was being targeted deep repeatedly, but was being missed far too often.

Well, he wasn’t missed this week and given the exploitable matchup, he exploded. It’s important to pay attention to trends such as this when looking at players, as it helps us predict who the next breakout will be and hopefully snag them at lower ownership.

Heading into week 6, we have four teams on a bye, but 14 games of action-packed football to break down. Will we see more massive scoring outputs, or will everything seem to normalize? Let’s check out the data to find out!
