2020 NFL mock draft: Justin Herbert lands with Bengals
By Brad Weiss
The Denver Broncos have suddenly come to life over the last two weeks, beating division rival Los Angeles in Week 5, and then the Tennessee Titans in Week 6. Quarterback Joe Flacco, who the team got from the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason, has been steady under center, providing veteran leadership to this team throughout their two straight wins.
While Flacco has been steady, he is not the long-term answer in Denver, and the team may decide to dip into a suddenly deep quarterback class to get their next franchise guy. This is a franchise waiting on a legitimate long-term option since Peyton Manning retired, and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts has played himself into the first round conversation.
Hurts is not only an incredibly gifted runner, as he has shown during his time at the college level, but he is developing into quite a pocket passer in his first year under Lincoln Riley with the Sooners. He has all the talent to make every throw at the NFL level, and if he continues to dominate the college football landscape this season, he could be the third straight Oklahoma quarterback to bring home the Heisman Trophy.
One thing is for sure, the Arizona Cardinals made the correct pick by selecting Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. All Murray has done since coming into the league is show he can make plays happen with his arm, and his feet, which he did in Sunday’s win against the Atlanta Falcons.
Murray showed off his ability to fit the ball into tight windows, and based on what we have seen so far, he is going to be a legitimate franchise quarterback at the NFL level. Overall, this Cardinals team has been a pleasant surprise, but they need to continue to build up a roster that has fallen on hard times in recent years.
Looking at the 2020 NFL Draft class, the Cardinals could fill a void at cornerback, bringing in Kristian Fulton from LSU. Fulton is not only a great cover cornerback, but also has the kind of mentality you need to play the position at the next level, possessing a great football IQ with the ability to cover any college team’s WR1.
