Joe Montana Division

4. Tom Brady (LW: 3)

Brady is playing good football, but he slides down another spot. The Patriots are relying almost exclusively on their defense, while Brady throws here and there against the worst schedule we’ve ever seen through six weeks. Don’t be shocked if Brady moves around the list a bit this season.

3. Deshaun Watson (LW: 4)

Watson was better than his numbers in Arrowhead suggested. He threw for 280 yards on 42 attempts with a scoring strike and two interceptions, but watched Will Fuller drop three touchdowns. Watson isn’t an MVP candidate in my mind, but he’s playing very good football.

2. Russell Wilson (LW: 2)

Wilson is the MVP of the season so far. He’s thrown 14 touchdown passes without an interception. He’s averaging 9.0 yards per attempt while completing better than 72 percent of his throws in an offense with no imagination. He’s been brilliant.

1. Patrick Mahomes (LW: 1)

So why does Mahomes stay ahead of Wilson? Because Mahomes is the best player in football. He’s playing with half an ankle and a bad offensive line (Eric Fisher can’t return quick enough), and he has 14 touchdowns and one interception. He’s also leading the league with 2,104 yards with 9.1 YPA. He’s ridiculous and WIlson’s main competition for MVP.
