DFS Advice – Wide Receivers to Sit

Mike Williams (LAC) @ TEN

Although Williams has seen 23 targets in his last two games played, I’m not feeling very optimistic about his chances this Sunday. The Chargers are visiting a stout Titans’ secondary and quarterback Philip Rivers has been struggling as of late too. The Titans were able to keep Denver’s top wideout Courtland Sutton in check, holding him to just four catches for 76 yards. The combination of a tough defense like Tennessee and the fact that Philip Rivers hasn’t looked quite like himself is not something you will want to take your chances on. I’d keep Williams on my bench until a better matchup comes along.

Kenny Golladay (DET) vs. MIN

As good as I think Golladay is, this week is probably not the most ideal to start him. Although quarterback Matthew Stafford does target Golladay often in games (9.0/gm), a lot of his throws can be erratic and way off the mark for even the best receivers to go up and catch. To top it off, Detroit will be hosting the Minnesota Vikings this week who owns one of the best units at shutting down the receiving aspect of the game (141.67 yds/gm – eighth-least). This is expected to be a tight defensive battle, so the number of times Stafford will have to throw the ball might be a little more limited than usual. Despite being the number one receiver on a thin Lions’ receiving corps, now’s not the time to put him in your lineup unless you are truly desperate.

Dante Pettis (SF) @ WSH

One of the biggest busts in fantasy this year so far has been Dante Pettis. Coming into the 2019 campaign, Pettis was expected to be the team’s number one target but that has not panned out. He’s averaging just three targets per game, making him nearly invisible in San Francisco’s run-first offense. Don’t be fooled by his extremely delectable matchup against Washington. The 49ers seem to be content with running the ball first and if they can jump out to an early lead like most of us suspect, then there isn’t much need to throw the ball a lot throughout the course of the game.
