DFS Advice – Tight Ends to Sit

T.J. Hockenson (DET) vs. MIN

It is encouraging to see Hockenson back on the gridiron after he suffered a concussion back in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. While this is all well and good for Hockenson’s career, for fantasy he’s not panning out as we had hoped he would. Week 1 may have been a figment of our imagination because he hasn’t come anywhere close to those types of numbers since. The Lions are also hosting a stingy Minnesota Vikings’ defense that has not allowed much success to opposing tight ends this year. As I had previously stated with fellow teammate Kenny Golladay, this matchup between the Lions and Vikings will likely be a low-scoring affair causing for a diminished rate of passes by both quarterbacks. As a result, receivers and tight ends like Hockenson will see a limited amount of targets come their way, giving him a reduced ceiling to work with. It would probably be in your best interest to avoid starting Hockenson until he can produce at a respectable level.

Jared Cook (NO) vs. CHI

The combination of losing starting quarterback Drew Brees with a thumb injury for an extended period of time and the fact that the Chicago Bears are one of the best in the business against tight ends is why Cook appears on this list. Cook has cracked the top-10 the previous two weeks of the season combining for seven catches on 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Unfortunately, this sweet little trend will most likely come to a screeching halt this week as the Saints welcome to town the Chicago Bears. Teddy Bridgewater has been a solid replacement in place of Brees but he’s not of the same caliber as the Hall of Famer. Keep Cook on your bench until a lesser defense challenges the Saints in the future weeks to come.
