5 bold Premier League predictions: Solskjaer sacked after Liverpool loss
Matchday 9 of the Premier League is almost upon us and there are some great fixtures to look forward to. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.
The international break is finally over which means the Premier League is back on our TVs this weekend – thank goodness. There’s plenty of mouth-watering action for us to tuck into and it all kicks off with West Ham’s trip to Everton on Saturday.
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea host Newcastle whilst Manchester City face a difficult trip to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace. Sunday only has one game but it’s a big one as Manchester United host Liverpool in a game that could see the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign at United.
The weekend is closed out on Monday when Arsenal travel to Sheffield United in a game that will be anything but easy. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.
5. Marco Silva comes closer to the sack with West Ham defeat
The first game of the Premier League weekend sees West Ham travel to Goodison Park to face off against an Everton side that is incredibly unpredictable. The Toffees have lost four in a row in the league and their boss, Marco Silva, desperately needs a win this weekend if he wants to keep his job.
West Ham are heading in a different direction as they knock on the door of the top six. The Hammers hit a slight barrier last matchday when they lost at home to Crystal Palace but Manuel Pellegrini will see that result as a stumble more than anything else.
The Chilean manager will fancy his side’s chances of coming away with all three points this weekend, especially considering the pressure that Marco Silva is under to get a win. If things aren’t going well early for Everton, it will be easy for the home support to get on their back which in turn will fuel the fire of the away side.
Fans aside, West Ham should probably be winning this game anyway. Everton have had some good results under Silva but they’ve lacked consistency and more importantly an identity. Having watched them a few times this season, it seems that they play no two games the same and that the players don’t work particularly well as a team.
West Ham on the other hand look more like a side that play as a team and one who knows how they want to play and what’s going to get them results. They may not always achieve these results but at least they seem to have a structured playing style.
Everton fans may take a loss this weekend if it means that Silva would leave the club. The Portuguese manager appears to have lost the belief of the players and in that kind of situation it’s almost impossible to turn things around.
The Hammers will put three past Everton with the Merseysiders getting a late consolation. That will mount even more pressure on Silva and he’ll be lucky if he still has a job come Monday morning.
