NFL FanDuel: Week 7 DEF Targets – (Early Only)

San Francisco 49ers – $5,000 – (Cash)

This Niners defense is legit. Somebody pointed out to me before last weeks 20-7 win in Los Angeles against the Rams that they really haven’t played anybody yet, but I disagreed. They held what can be an explosive Buccaneers offense to just 17 points to start the season, then if you watched the 31-3 throttling of Baker Mayfield and the Browns, you would know this D is the real deal. They held the Rams to just seven points last week although they were without Todd Gurley, and now they head to Washington to face an abysmal Redskins offense.

For cash games, I think you have to do what it takes to afford the 49ers or the Bills at home against Miami. I toyed with the Vikings as a salary saver, but the need to pay down is not there with the value at WR this week. Not only do the 49ers just fit for me this week, but I am also very impressed with some of the grades these starters are getting on pro football focus.

San Francisco has three cornerbacks that rank inside the top-20 in the NFL which is just an amazing stat in itself. K’Waun Williams ranks 8th and Ahkello Witherspoon currently is 10th, while longtime former Seahawk Richard Sherman comes in at 17th. Even more amazing is the PFF grades from the edge rushers. Rookie Nick Bosa is making his presence felt as he ranks 9th, but that is third on this team. Dee Ford grades out just ahead of Khalil Mack for the number one spot, and the Niners have yet another top-ten graded edge rusher in Arik Armstead, who ranks sixth.

What does all this mean and why am I talking so much about a defense? Good cornerbacks equal interceptions, and good edge rushers equal sacks. Interceptions and sacks equal fantasy points. The Redskins allow 2.5 sacks per game, and their QB’s have thrown 8 interceptions combined. Enough said?
