Daily Fantasy Basketball: GPP Strategy (both sites)

I mentioned what type of player I am looking for in GPPs earlier, but one thing I didn’t discuss yet is one of my favorite strategies – game stacking. NBA DFS has correlated plays just like any other DFS sport. Do you stack up an offense in baseball? Stack quarterbacks with receivers in football? Why wouldn’t you want to stack a few players from the same game in NBA DFS then?  It’s only logical that if a game has a high total and close spread (the games we like the most in any DFS sport) then we should want several pieces from it as they could be some of the highest raw scores on the slate.

Game stacking can be tricky, though. You don’t want too many pieces from the same game unless it’s a really small slate (like 3 games or less).  If you are overexposed to a game and it turns into a blowout, or even if there are just 1-2 players from your game stack who don’t make value you’re simply not going to take down a tournament. I think 3-4 pieces from a game is the ideal amount of exposure, although that’s certainly not a hard and fast rule.

There are really no “wrong ways” to build GPP lineups and I would always recommend that you play your cash game lineup in a GPP just in case the optimal plays all go off and hit their ceilings. Like in any other sport, you have to be willing to take some chances of some cheap players in order to win a GPP and go a little off the grid when looking for that “diamond in the rough” that is going to get you a bink (sorry, I just watched the new Aladdin movie like 5 times and that phrase is still fresh in my mind).
