It’s been a banner year for Oklahoma football so far but the first crack in the armor was exposed before their tilt with West Virginia.
Oklahoma is perfect where it matters in the win-loss column. But they took a big L in the pre-game when the Sooner Schooner tipped over and spilled out its passengers. This happens every now and then when the horses are running a little too fast and the aerodynamics are such that it’s like a Dodge Durango or otherwise large SUV and you run the risk of tipping over.
That’s exactly what happened.
"Overall, they're going to be okay."

No, you should not be laughing, but it is funny. Thankfully, everyone is okay, although their egos may be a bit bruised as they see themselves flying out of the Sooner Schooner on all the highlight shows all weekend.
This is the type of stuff you can laugh off when you’re one of the best teams in the nation, coming off a big win off your rival and have a Heisman candidate at quarterback, which is an annual tradition at Oklahoma now.
That tradition hasn’t been around as the Sooner Schooner but it’s a part of the Sooner football legacy now.
Back to the tipping over, for a second.
Okay, I know we’re all fixated on the people flying out, especially the young woman who looked like took the brunt of the fall. Thankfully, again, she’s okay. But what I can’t stop thinking about is how the dudes take like a half-second to check on her before going back to check on the wagon.
Okay, yes, the wagon is a special part of the university and Oklahoma football identity. But, also, it’s not a person like the woman who was flung from this highly-unsafe vehicle that is not street legal. I mean, where are the seatbelts on this thing?!
Oklahoma released a statement afterward explaining why and how it tipped over and the welfare of the people and the ponies.
(2/2) Upon initial evaluation, it also appears the ponies are uninjured. Medical staff responded immediately as did the expert horse handlers and veterinarian who staff all games. We are grateful that the injuries were not serious and for the staff members who responded so well.
