 1. Domingo German

The idea of moving German obviously has nothing to do with his on-field talent. He was the team’s most consistent starter during the 2019 season. German was slated to be a part of the team’s postseason rotation until he was suspended after being accused of domestic abuse.

Simply put, he needs a fresh new start somewhere else in 2020. The Yankees cannot afford to invest heavily into a young pitcher that suffers from these kinds of issues. If there’s an ounce of truth in the allegations levied against German, Cashman should find a new home for him this winter.

Again, this isn’t a player the Yankees should be looking to offload cheaply. Even though he’s damaged goods, he still has the potential to bring the organization back quality talent in return. In a perfect world, Cashman could flip German for another young, starting pitcher who could walk right into the Yankees’ rotation.

That’s probably too much to ask for though. Instead, look for the Yankees to deal German for a prospect who might grow into that sort of pitcher. That will go against the rest of the team’s moves this offseason, but German has put the front office in a very difficult spot.

Rebuilding the starting rotation will be the Yankees’ top priority this offseason. Trading German is going to make that more difficult, but it’s the right thing for the organization to do.
